On May 27, Gemadept Corporation (Gemadept) and CMA CGM Group (France), one of the world\u2019s three largest shipping lines, officially signed a cooperation agreement to establish a joint venture. This venture will provide Vietnam\u2019s first 100% electric container barge transport solution. This is a crucial strategic step, building on the long-standing partnership, collaboration, and development between these two leading partners.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This event not only opens a new chapter in the commitment to developing green logistics but also affirms Gemadept\u2019s pioneering role in this revolution, contributing to increased efficiency in domestic transportation. The initiative is also a symbol of Vietnamese businesses\u2019 strong commitment to sustainable development and their ability to integrate and reach international levels.<\/p>\n

Realizing Green Logistics Commitment with Breakthrough and Effective Solutions<\/strong><\/p>\n

Accompanying the Government in its Net Zero 2050 commitment, Gemadept has been prioritizing green logistics as a focus in its long-term development strategy. The electric barge project is a specific and revolutionary action and is also a clear demonstration of this commitment.<\/p>\n

The project is co-designed with a team of experts from CMA CGM and operated by a newly established joint venture. The electric barge system will operate on the 180 km long waterway between Binh Duong and Cai Mep port cluster (Ba Ria \u2013 Vung Tau). A key highlight of the project is the creation of a comprehensive and effective clean energy ecosystem. Accordingly, the barge will be charged directly at Gemalink Deep-sea Port \u2013 the heart of Gemadept\u2019s port ecosystem in the South. Gemalink will be equipped with a high capacity charging station, using electricity from a solar power system. This is also an important project developed in parallel at the port, ensuring a stable and green energy supply.<\/p>\n

This innovative solution is expected to significantly cut emissions, reducing approximately 778 tons of CO\u2082 equivalent annually (calculated using the Well-to-Wake method, which assesses total emissions from fuel production to vessel operation). This makes a practical contribution to minimizing the carbon footprint in customers\u2019 supply chains. Furthermore, the choice and commitment of global brands to utilize this zero-emission transport solution demonstrates confidence in the capability and efficiency of the provided solution, while also affirming the inevitable trend of sustainable green transportation.<\/p>\n
