Gemadept attended the 44th ASEAN Maritime Transport Conference

On May 9, 2023, the Vietnam Maritime Administration (Ministry of Transport) in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat opened the 44th ASEAN-Ministry of Transport Working Group Conference (MTWG 44) held in Da Nang City. Da Nang. Attending the conference, representatives of Gemadept Joint Stock Company presented maritime security, green and sustainable port development model and ongoing programs at Gemadept port block. Gemadept's presentation was well appreciated by maritime industry representatives of ASEAN member countries and organizations.

As a Chairman of the Conference according to the rotating mechanism of ASEAN, the 44th Conference was chaired by Deputy Director of the Vietnam Maritime Administration - Mr. Hoang Hong Giang. Attendees at the Conference include 10 ASEAN member countries, the ASEAN Secretariat, the International Maritime Organization (IMO), dialogue partners: the United States, Japan, Korea, China, India and other ASEAN regional association.

At the Opening Ceremony, Deputy Minister Nguyen Xuan Sang attended and gave the opening speech. Also, Vietnam was honored to welcome Mr. Ki Tack Lim, Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to attend the Conference and work with relevant agencies and organizations in Vietnam.

The MTWG 44 conference focused on a number of important programs such as: Implementing measures related to maritime traffic according to the Kuala Lumpur Strategic plan 2021-2026; realizing the ASEAN Single Shipping Market (ASSM) through the implementation of agreed strategies and measures (MT-1); realizing the operation of RO-RO transportation network in ASEAN (MT-2); developing an efficient and integrated inland waterway transport (IWWT) network (MT-3); strengthening the positioning system and security measures according to international standards (MT-4); developing necessary initiatives and policy recommendations to develop strategic maritime transport logistics between ASEAN and dialogue partners; enhancing regional cooperation in improving traffic safety; Strengthening regional cooperation in developing policies and strategies related to sustainable transportation (ST-1).

Identifying and implementing key sustainable transport measures (ST-2); enhancing regional cooperation in smart technology application in the transportation sector (ST-4); maritime transport initiatives to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and crisis; cooporating ASEAN regional on ship waste management; progressing of implementing the work of the Working Group for the period 2022-2023; cooporating ASEAN with private sector partners (Seaport Association, shipowners) and regional dialogue partners; New maritime transport and emergency issues…

Gemadept representative presented about Maritime Security and Green Port Development Model at the Conference

At the Conference, Gemadept, representing typical Vietnamese port operations and logistics enterprises, gave a presentation on Maritime Security and Green - Sustainable Port Development. Accordingly, Gemadept has been continuing to pursue a smarter and greener port development model based on 4 main criteria: Using port equipment operated by clean energy; optimizing the use of renewable energy; promoting inland water transportation; applying technology, digital transformation, and jointly developing projects for the environment.

As a leading enterprise in the field of port exploitation and logistics in Vietnam, with a pioneering spirit and a deep sense of corporate social responsibility, Gemadept has taken specific steps, decisions and actions. towards the goal of responding to climate change, joining hands with the Government and the communityin sustainable development, demonstrated through green, environmentally friendly port projects, applying ISO 14064 standards, international standards for management, inventory s and initiatives to reducereport  greenhouse gas emissions, etc., while actively contributing to maritime businesses in Vietnam and ASEAN member countries to strengthen cooperation and development, joining hands to work towards a common goal: Building a green supply chain in the region and gradually enhance ASEAN's position on the world maritime map.

Conference Organizing Committee, representatives of ASEAN member countries and the International Maritime Organization highly appreciated and recognized the efforts of Gemadept in particular and ASEAN businesses in general in practical decisions and actions towards green and sustainable development.
