On April 10, 2023, Gemalink International Port launched the Program 'Planting mangrove forests for Green - Sustainable agriculture'. With this project, the first 300 Rhizophora apiculata trees were planted at shrimp farms in Long Toan commune, Duyen Hai district, Tra Vinh province.

According to the Department of Climate Change (DCC) and Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, The Mekong Delta experiences heavy rain, high temperatures, and increased salinity due to climate change that varies the structure of the aquatic ecosystem.

Mr. Le Van Buoi, head of a local shrimp farming household, said that in recent years shrimp farming output had been decreased significantly due to fluctuating weather conditions.

At the Launching Ceremony, Representatives of the authorities of Long Toan commune, Duyen Hai district, Tra Vinh province, sent sincere thanks to Gemalink Int'l Port (Gemadept Joint Stock Company invests 75%) along with the Seed for Sea Project for action programs to try to rebuild mangrove forests, contributing to building Green - Sustainable agriculture in the Mekong Delta as well as aiming to replicate the model across the country.

Serving for a green environment and green ecosystem in the Mekong Delta

In the speech at the program launching ceremony, Mr. Chu Duc Trung, Head of Development & Innovation Department, Gemalink Int'l Port, said that planting submerged forests with the shrimp farming model will be a a model that has little impact on the natural environment, increasing biosphere diversity in ponds to create better living conditions for shrimp to grow as well as supporting aquaculture households and developing a green - substainable environment.

Mr. Chu Duc Trung told that Tra Vinh province is the first locality where Seed for Sea Project had started the work of rebuilding mangrove forests in The Mekong Delta.

In 2022, with the Seed for Sea project, Gemalink Int'l Port has coordinated with the social and environmental enterprise - MangLub Vietnam to carry out the first project of planting 2 hectares of Intsia bijuga (the trees listed in the Red List) in Long Vinh commune, Duyen Hai district, Tra Vinh province. This event attracted a lot of interest from local people, as well as the port and logistics business community.

With the goal of planting 50 hectares of mangrove forests throughout provinces in The Mekong Delta, in 2023, Gemalink has been accompanying the sustainable development strategy of Gemadept Group, continuing to carry out its community mission through many mangrove planting campaigns to help local farmers understand more about the important benefits of mangrove forests for the healthy growth of shrimp, as well as other aquatic products in the mangroves ecosystem.

Gemalink Int'l Port is one of the pioneering deep-water ports in building the Greener - Smarter'  port in Vietnam.

The program 'Planting mangroves for a Green - Sustainable environment' not only spreads Green & Sustainable environmental awareness to the local community, but also inspires port and logistics enterprises in particular and the Vietnamese business community in general about the responsibility to the environment, community, and society. Therefore, we join hands to limit the negative impacts of climate change.
