Gemalink Port continues to invest 6 modern RTGs

To maximize loading and unloading efficiency, meeting the demand for increasing cargo volume through Cai Mep port area and to operate full-designated capacity of Gemalink’s phrase 1 (1.5 million TEUs) in 2022. Recently, Gemadept - Terminal Link Cai Mep Terminal Joint Stock Company (Gemalink) has signed a contract with the world's leading crane manufacturer Konecranes (Sweden) to continue to equip 6 modern RTGs (Rubber-Tired Gantry). 

As the largest deep-sea port with a capacity of 2.4 million TEUs including 2 phases, Gemalink phase 1 was officially put into operation from the beginning of 2021. It is a favorable start with outstanding advantages and equipment including 6 STS cranes (supplied by Doosan Vina in 2020), 18 RTGs, feeder gantry cranes, forklifts and other modern cargo handling equipment. With this purchase order, Gemalink will operate a fleet of 24 modern Konecranes Noell RTGs in the Phrase 1 of the Port, in total. 

Produced by Konecranes (Sweden), the world's leading corporation in lifting businesses, Gemalink's E-RTG cranes are the world's most modern generation possessing preeminent features: The lifting capacity under the crane frame is up to 41 tons, the stacking height is 5+1 container floors, and the width is 7+1 rows of containers. With this optimization design, the traveling distance and operating range of the crane ensure optimal handling capacity and are flexible enough for the crane to operate safely and accurately.

With the goal of building a modern green port, Gemalink's E-RTG crane generation uses 100% electricity, it is operated semi-automatically, integrated Active Load Control (ALC) and smart cabin technologies. In addition, it has smart control with DGPS system combined with modern CATOS port management software. Thereby, all activities of monitoring, operation management, coordination between the quay side and the yard side are carried out smoothly, quickly and accurately. By optimizing the port operation performances, Gemalink continuously improves service quality to better serve our customers and partners.

Previously, in March 2021, Gemalink has signed a contract with Doosan Heavy Industry Vietnam Co., Ltd (Doosan Vina) to manufacture two more STS (Ship-to-shore) cranes.

As planned, there are 2 modern STS cranes and 6 modern RTGs will be handed over to Gemalink in March and July 2022. As well as increasingly cargo volume from the partners both in the joint venture and other shipping companies, Gemalink continues to maximize the port's capacity through investment in state-of-the-art equipment and operate at the highest efficiency, Gemalink expects to create a miracle that having profit in the first year and operating full capacity in the second year since putting in operation. Soon, with its strategic position, substantial capacity, green modern port model and outstanding service quality, Gemalink will continue to meet the development potential of the region and being a reliable partner of international shipping lines and import-export customers. Gemalink is going to be a Vietnam deep-sea port reaching out to the world.
