Along with the potentials of the economy, Gemadept Corporation (GMD) has always been ready to take advantage of development opportunities. With the expanding port network as a solid base, GMD operates and manages 7 ports from North to South, at strategic locations of major industrial zones that have rapid cargo volume growth.
Expansion of port projects
It can be said that, in recent years, Vietnamese economy has been experiencing the most dynamic period since Doi Moi. Despite all the difficulties and challenges that an emerging economy has to deal with, Vietnam achieved the highest GDP growth rate in 2018 and was among the fastest growing regionally and globally. Most recently, Fitch predicts that Vietnam will continue to receive large FDI capital in manufacturing, helping the country to maintain a rapid development momentum.
In addition, the US - China Trade War might trigger the supply chain diversion from China to Southeast Asia and Vietnam is one of the “fruitful” places in the region that may benefit the most.
In 2018 and 2019, GMD has proceeded and launched strategic port projects. Particularly, phase 1 of Nam Dinh Vu port cluster, the largest one in Dinh Vu area (with total capacity of 1.5 million TEUs for 3 phases), welcomed the first vessel call in the very first days of Spring. GMD is also preparing for the construction of Nam Dinh Vu phase 2 in Q4/2019 so as to meet the current and future market demand.
The most significant milestone in GMD’s port development strategy is Gemalink project – the largest deep sea port in Vietnam (with total capacity of 2.4 million TEUs for 2 phases). The project’s Phase 1 construction was resumed in February 2019. With its spectacular competitive advantages, Gemalink will become a reliable destination for the world’s largest mother vessels, creating another bridge to connect Vietnam with transcontinental navigation routes.
When the projects are completed and put into operation in Q3 and Q4/2020, together with the existing ports, GMD will establish a new position in the port industry, creating a breakthrough in its scale, cargo volume and capacity.

GMD will keep renewing itself, changing to be always the pioneer in the industries, taking advantage of all resources to become Vietnam’s leading port and logistics operator. All are for the benefits of clients, partners and shareholders as well as for contribution to the prosperity of Vietnamese people.
